I Wish You Success, Chief of Engineering
Cones 4, which the native people call Bolton.
Diplomat's Name: Dorl'EM. He is the highest ranking diplomat of Bolton. He is suspected of being a member of Innstel, the true ruling power of the puppet government. This group is suspected of heinous crimes throughout the sector. None of this can be proven by Starfleet. The Dorl'EM, himself is thought to be responsible for a number of the crimes. These include the total annihilation of a primitive planet of 30 million people by using a fast acting but short lived biological agent. Second, the annihilation of a Marquis Colony consisting of 300 people, primarily women and children. Another was the destruction of the U.S. S. Bird while it was answering the distress call of the Marquis Colony. Others, such as raids and hijacking of star ships, are just a few crimes that continue on his list. Not a very nice person! Still, none of this can be proven. Startleet still have to deal with this person
Suspect Number 1: Captain Warren Price. His possible motive for the murder was the destruction and massacre of the Marquis Colony, as he is the current Marquis Ambassador.
Suspect Number 2: First Officer Karl French. His possible motive for the murder was the destruction of the U.S.S. Bird. He was given his first commission as the First Officer on that ship.
Suspect Number 3: Second Officer Audrey French. Her possible motive was the Captain of the U.S.S. Bird was her uncle, who had sparked her interest in Staifleet.
Suspect Number 4: Chief Medical Officer Barbara Jones. Her possible motive was the disregard he had for races other than his own. Also the that the biological agent used for the massacre was the most lethal and caused the most agonizing death.
Suspect Number 5: Chief of Security Charles Stewart. His possible motive was that his sister and her children were on the Marquis Colony destroyed by the Iiiiistel.
Suspect Number 6: Senior Science Officer Caroline Pate. Her possible motive was that she was one of the few survivors of the U.S.S. Bird.
Suspect Number 7: Science Officer Larry Tollette. His possible motive was that he was stationed on a science outpost and had witnessed first hand a raid by the Diplomat's agents. He also witnessed the execution of the top three scientists of the Federation.
Diplomat Number 1: Leonardo Nion. His possible motive was that his planet had suffered raids and destruction of colonies for many years at the hands of the Innstel. Diplomat Number 2: P'rite. His possible motive was the planet's inhabitants, that was the target for the biological agent, were his descendants. The other six Diplomats all had the same motives as Leonardo and P'rite some more inhumane than others.
U.S.S. Providence stops at Starbase 98 for crew replacement, equipment upgrades and supplies.
While on Starbase 98, Captain Price is called into Adm. Spring's office to receive special orders for the next mission. The rest of the crew are on leave as their duties permit. The Captain's orders are, after all equipment upgrades are complete and supplies have been loaded, to gather all the Diplomats and their aides, who are to attend the conference, on board the ship. The mission was going smoothly until Dorl'EM arrived on board. Then tensions began to rise. In transporter room 2, Captain Price and First Officer French, Chief of Security Stewart and two other Diplomats are there to greet Dorl'EM. Upon his arrival Captain Price begins making the proper introductions when one of the Diplomats says something in his native tongue to Dorl'EM, which sparks a violent argument. This altercation took all three officers to break it up. After the Diplomats are separated and escorted to their quarters, Captain Price takes the duty of escorting Dorl'EM to his quarters. Enroute, Dorl'EM is complaining about being the last to arrive and not having the royal treatment he thinks he should have gotten. At his quarters DorI'EM is outraged. His quarters are not to his satisfaction and he complains of everything: colors, temperature, size and location. The Captain informs him that these quarters are reserved, at times, for the highest ranking of Starfleet and other Federation members, who have praised them. Dorl'EM makes the comment that Federation standards are lower than his. The Captain apologizes and informs Dorl'EM of a dinner reception that night at 20:30. He grunts in acknowledgment and dismisses the Captain. Captain Price bites his tongue and leaves.
Back on the bridge First Officer French informs the Captain that the two other Diplomats have calmed down and apologized for the outburst. Captain Price tells Number 1 that Dorl'EM was not pleased with anything, especially his quarters. Number I makes the comment, "Is he a Diplomat or part of the Q Continuum?" The Captain chuckles and says, "Q isn't that bad."
The Diplomats and top officers of the ship are all seated at the table. All are having conversations and everything's going well. Then Dorl'EM arrives late and is greeted by the Captain. The Captain made the introductions and everyone sits down and resumes their dinner. Dinner goes well to the Captain's surprise. Afterwards, everyone is invited to the observation lounge for drinks. Two of the Diplomats decline the invitation and go back to their quarters to meditate. "It's their custom to meditate after dinner." The first twenty minutes of this gathering goes well. Then a loud argument begins when four of the Diplomats start accusing Dorl'EM and his planet of the crimes they have committed. Before the Captain and First Officer can intervene, it comes to blows. Security is called in to pull everyone apart. Someone shouts, 'DorlEM, you'll never make it to the conference alive." Who shouted this remark is unknown, due to the confusion of the fight. Everyone is escorted back to their quarters. The Captain and First Officer are left in the observation lounge, which is now in a shambles. Captain Price makes the comment, "Your typical diplomatic function on, No.1."
Chief of Security arrives at Dorl'EM's quarters with an invitation from the Captain to tour the ship. He activates the door chime. After a couple of minutes and there is no answer, he rings the chime again. Still there is no answer causing him to become concerned He asks the computer for the location of Dorl'EM. The computer reply's, 'T)DorlEM is in his quarters." Security Officer Stewart does a security override of the door and enters Dorl'EM's quarters. He calls out to the Diplomat, but gets no answer. He becomes suspicious and goes to investigate. He finds the Diplomat lying on the floor fierce down. he rushes over to him and feels for a pulse and finds none. Then he calls for medical assistance to Cabin 25, Deck 5. Then he places a call to the Captain: 'Chief of Security Stewart to Captain Price." The Captain responds: 'captain here." Stewart replies: "We have a problem here. I believe Diplomat Dorl'EM is dead." The Captain responds: "I'm on my way." The Captain and First Officer enters Dorl'EM's quarters where Chief Medical Officer Barbara Jones and 2 nurses are leaning over the body. Stewart informs the Captain that he has placed security outside the door and no one has entered the room but him and the medical team.
he Captain waits while C.M.O. Barbara Jones examines the body. A few moments later the C.M.O. gets up and approaches the Captain. By the look on her face he has the answer to his question. He asks anyway. 'How long?" The C.M.O. responds: "Without a full autopsy, best guess, 6 hours." Captain Price then turns to the First Officer and says, As soon as the doctor has the results the ship is under yellow alert." The he adds, '1 want a forensic team to go over Dorl'EM's quarters. No one is to enter without my authorization." Two hours later the C.M.O. contacts the Captain. She informs him that the Diplomat had been poisoned. Now the task was to find what kind of poison. Captain Price calls an emergency meeting of all bridge officers in the main conference room. At the meeting the Captain asks the C.M.O. "What's the final results of Dorl'EM's death?" The C.M.O. responds "The poison used was made up of two parts." As she addressed the meeting she goes into detail to explain that one part of the poison could be given at one time and not kill him. The second part could be given to km much later. Together they would kill him. Captain responds by saying, We have a murder to solve."
On the coffee table was a bottle of wine native to his planet. A glass, half full, some cheese, and a half eaten piece of fruit. The fruit and cheese came from the replicator. He brought the wine on board himself All was found to be laced with the second half of the poison. The first half of the poison had to have been introduced when he came aboard the ship. Security log shows that all suspects listed before paid a visit to Dorl'EM's quarters. Now the task is for you to try to solve the murder.
